Dental Implants
Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved. The implants themselves are tiny titanium posts that are placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. In addition, implants can help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration, which occurs when teeth are missing.
Implants can be used in many different situations. They can replace a single tooth, group of teeth, support an implant bridge or anchor an entire arch of teeth. In addition, when someone has lost or will loose all of his or her teeth, implants can support a denture, giving support, security, cosmetics and eliminating loose dentures.
Dental implants are changing the way people live! With them, people are rediscovering the comfort and confidence to eat, speak, laugh and enjoy life.
Below is an example of an implant replacing a missing front tooth:

Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain laminate veneers are one of the most esthetic means of creating a more pleasing and beautiful smile. They require a minimal amount of tooth reduction (approximately .5 mm) and are, therefore, a more conservative restoration than a crown. Porcelain veneers allow us to alter tooth position, shape, size and color. They are not the only alternative for all esthetic abnormalities but are truly a remarkable restoration when they are the treatment of choice.
Root Canal Therapy
Endodontics is a branch of dentistry recognized by the American Dental Association involving treatment of the pulp (root canal) and surrounding tissues of the tooth. When you look at your tooth in the mirror, what you see is the crown. The rest of the tooth, hidden beneath the gum line, is called the root. Though the outer portion of the root is a hard tissue called dentin, the inside channel or "root canal" contains a pulp of soft tissue, blood vessels and nerves. Bacteria that are introduced into the pulp as a result of tooth decay, periodontal disease, tooth fracture or other problems, can severely damage the pulp. When that happens, an endodontic specialist removes the diseased pulp to save the tooth and prevent further infection and inflammation. After successful endodontic treatment, the tooth continues to perform normally. We perform most endodontic procedures in our office. In most cases there is no need for another appointment outside of Manus.
Periodontal Disease
Periodontal disease is the chief cause of tooth loss in adults. Often there are warnings, but sometimes there are no signs at all. Periodontal disease has been called "the silent epidemic." Periodontal disease involves a bacterial infection of the teeth and gums. The bacteria is referred to as dental plaque which then turns into calculus or tartar. Calculus and tarter work under the gums, down the root of the tooth, creating pockets or spaces between the teeth and gums. Periodontal therapy is directed at:
- Cleaning the infected areas around the root surfaces.
- Teaching you how to effectively clean your teeth.
- Minimizing the damages associated with the spread of the infection.
Our clinical team will evaluate your condition and recommend the best therapy for your individual case. Periodontal therapy has been shown to be an effective way to help you keep your teeth. Ninety-eight percent of patients with excellent home care respond favorably to periodontal therapy. A commitment to a lifetime of health can help you preserve your teeth for as long as possible. Because we have several of the area's top Periodontists (including Dr. Robert Pick) as members of the Manus clinical team, we are able to avoid the challenges associated with outside referrals. All our periodontal specialists would welcome the opportunity to personally review your case and present an appropriate treatment plan.
